Scott Heaps

Scott Heaps is owner of GravityFree. The 39 year old, was born and raised in York, Penn. and moved to the Sarasota, Florida area in 1988. Heaps, an ardent musician was attracted to the small town's big city culture and artistic climate within its laid back beach atmosphere. A self-taught computer enthusiast, Heaps went to work for himself as a desktop publisher - turned graphic designer - before starting his own software business in 1992. For 5 years, his company developed and provided database management software that automated the sales and marketing processes for its customers. In 1997 he co-founded Ad-vantagenet, GravityFree as it is known today, with a friend and fellow cyber sage Ray Villares. Heaps has spent the past nine years growing GravityFree's Internet Business Solution offerings, where he oversees strategic planning, operations and business development as well as computer networking, sales and operations; all of which ensure GravityFree's current and future stance of being on the leading edge of Internet technology.

Heaps plays a big part in the Sarasota business scope. His ingenuity in business and technology has served to benefit not only his customers, but the local business community as well. Heaps is an officer of the Downtown Partnership Board of Directors and chairman of the Technology Council. A graduate of Leadership Sarasota County, an active volunteer for the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, and a judge of the Small Business Awards, he also lends himself personally to causes such as Children First and the Humane Society of Sarasota.

His company and personal accolades include dozens of regional and national design awards, and other honors such as, Gulf Coast Business Review's - 40 Under 40 (2001), Sarasota Chamber of Commerce's - Young Business of the Year (2001), and Sarasota Committee for Economic Development's - Technology Company of the Year (2003). He was runner up in Gulf Coast Business Review's - Entrepreneur of the Year (1998), and recently featured in Sarasota Magazine as one of the "Top 10 People to Watch" in Sarasota County (2003).
